Limited to only 8 properties, Ballynagard Cottages
on Rathlin Island, which lies some 6 miles off the coast at Ballycastle
& just 14 miles from the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland, presents
a rare opportunity to invest in an historic and romantic part of
the world.
Four of the homes
have already been snapped up, with purchasers acknowledging the
fact that it is not often one gets a chance to buy into such a stunning
and awe inspiring surroundings, so it is not surprising that interest
in the remaining four is growing as more people give the idea of
island living a possibility.
The cottages are
also ideal as second homes to be used as holiday getaways, with
a regular ferry sailing to the island, and more ready access to
the mainland also available by fast speedboat.
Ballynagard
Cottages offer excellent accommodation and look
equally as attractive inside as they do on the exterior. Designed
to compliment their island environment and built using only the
best materials by dedicated craftsmen, the properties consist of
a spacious lounge with feature fireplace and fully fitted kitchen
/ dining area on the ground floor, with three generously proportioned
bedrooms and a luxury fitted bathroom on the first floor.
Careful attention
to detail is evident throughout the properties which enjoy a high
level of specification, including double glazing, oil fired central
heating, hardwood back & front doors and there is also a generous
allowance for tiling.
Local amenities
include a hotel, pubs and places to eat, as well as shopping, your
everyday needs are readily met, though for more variety a short
trip across the water to Ballycastle is normal for most islanders.
During summer months
a timetable of 4 sailings in each direction operates. The ferry
service operated by Caledonian MacBrayne ferries, takes just over
30 minutes. For more information contact Caledonian MacBrayne ferries
on (028) 20769299.
Although the island measures
only 8 miles long by 1 mile wide, you will never be left with nothing
to do. It has a long and turbulent history with myths & mysteries
to be investigated. The island is surrounded by limestone and basalt
sea cliffs reaching almost 500ft in places. Despite the presence
of three lighthouses, Rathin Island is surrounded by over 40 recorded
shipwrecks.
The Royal Society
for the Protection of Birds manages a stretch of the cliff along
the north coast where Northern Ireland's largest seabird colony
breeds and although for safety reasons and access over private land
you are not encouraged to venture along the cliffs. Magnificent
views of the sea birds can be found from the safety of the West
Light viewpoint.
